Freshwater was appointed by Ryder Cup Europe to provide in-Wales PR support leading up to and during the week of the largest sporting event in the country’s history. Our brief was to ensure that the Welsh public was fully aware of the 2010 Ryder Cup and that positive messages on the Ryder Cup were communicated through all channels. We were also tasked with monitoring in-Wales issues relating to The 2010 Ryder Cup/Ryder Cup Europe, and providing advice and support.
Our team managed everything from community relations issues during the intensive build-up period, to delivering interviewees for live BBC and ITV news broadcasts on the final day of the competition. News coverage was supplemented by proactive features on subjects such as golf tourism, the number of women taking up the game, and the nations bidding to host the 2018 event.
We also devised and managed the first ever Ryder Cup Journalism Internship, giving four students the opportunity to experience working in one of the world’s largest media centres.
