Switzerland’s embassies in London and Dublin are stepping up their activity on Twitter after taking part in a workshop run by Waterfront Communications Training.
The workshop, led by Freshwater chief executive Steve Howell, discussed how social media could be used to publicise foreign policy initiatives, provide consular advice and promote culture and tourism.
The session covered all aspects of using Twitter from the practical basics to content strategy and ways of engaging with different audiences. The participants were given tips on etiquette, tone of voice and use of software tools such as bit.ly and Hootsuite.
The importance of the event was underlined by the presence of both ambassadors and people representing the wide range of work undertaken by the two missions.
“Freshwater offered a very useful presentation on how to use Twitter as a tool for public and digital diplomacy. The course was engaging, interactive and well-researched, and the lessons learned will prove very helpful in furthering our engagement with social media in the future.”
